Sunday 4 May 2014

On Sunday 3rd May we had our final 'team' training ride and took on 132 miles starting at 6am in the morning and finishing at just after 6pm in the evening. It was tough and once again we had a few extra challenges thrown at us including a flat tyre and taking a wrong turn.

However, lets put things in to perspective. On Wednesday evening we visited the Special Care Baby Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Whilst we had our photo taken and explained our 'tough' challenge to the nurses there were parents at the other end of the room watching over their baby not knowing what the future was to hold. The money that we are raising will make sure that this family and many more to come have the specialist care and equipment required to make that future a brighter one. We have no doubt that if you live or work in Gloucestershire that this charity at some stage has or will be there for you, a relative or friend.

So......... today starts the auction for this great charity and we ask you to get involved. Please share, like and invite others to join and most importantly bid. If something is worth £10, then here it is worth £11.

Last week we had an eventful 116 mile bike ride covering 4 shires. Our journey took us through Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Herefordshire. We have  learnt a few things from this ride to take in to our challenge. A few crashes, starting to fast and a bit of dehydration are all part of the learning curve for this challenge .This week we are off to Abergavenny to walk some hills and ride our bikes.

On Sunday 9th March the Three Peaks Sore Cheeks team completed our first 100 Mile training ride. This is a major milestone in our training however there is still plenty of work to be done. We will have to cover 5 times this distance in 72 hours so it was also a realisation to the enormity of this task. The picture above shows the team at a small Cafe in Upton where we stopped at 60 miles for a bite to eat. The 100 Mile route saw us visit Gloucester, Ross on Wye, Hereford, Worcester, Malvern, Ledbury and more. We continue to train hard throughout the week and train as a team on the weekend. Plans for the challenge are well under way. May we take this opportunity to say thank you to the companies that have supported us through sponsorship. It will mean we can maximise the amount of money to support the care of sick and premature babies at Gloucester Royal Hospital. Please visit our sponsors page to see those who have supported us.
Our focus has now turned to gaining general donations and auction donations for our online auction to be held between 12th-16th May. If you can help in any way please visit our donations page or make contact.

Three Peaks Sore Cheeks Challenge

In May 2014 we will take on what we have called the ‘Three Peaks Sore Cheeks Challenge' in aid of ‘Scoo-B-Doo’. We are Ken Hanna, Pete Hatherall, Scott Hurcombe and Tom Faulkner friends from Gloucestershire. We will climb the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell) and Wales (Snowdon) walking about 25 miles, climbing 10,000 feet and cycling the 460 miles between them within 72 hours. This challenge is 'another level' in both terms of training and the actual event to anything we have ever done before. With very little climbing experience and two of us not owning a bike until recently, the next 6 months of training is going to be tough.

Scoo-B-Doo is a charity that supports the Neonatal Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in caring for sick and premature babies. From day one, the charity has been actively fundraising to provide equipment and essential items, the money Scoo-B-Doo raises helps to maintain the service that is critical to the survival of these vulnerable patients.

We have set a minimum target of £5000 to raise which we will only do through the support and generosity of others. Please support us and keep up to date with our progress through this site and other social media. Most importantly please donate what you can afford, spread the word and forward to anyone that you think can help us. Your efforts will make a difference to saving the lives of others in Gloucestershire.
